Someone Told Rick Scott that Voters Care about Education

Today, in his latest reelection campaign stunt, Rick Scott announced his education budget for 2014.

When Rick Scott took office, his leadership was tested by the Great Recession. Scott chose to protect corporate tax giveaways and wealthy special interests, and wanted to cut nearly $3.3 billion from education. The next year, he cut $300 million from Florida universities. He failed the test. Rick Scott didn’t help Florida’s kids when they needed his help most.

FDP to Flyer Senior Centers on Washington Lobbyist David Jolly’s Record On Social Security and Medicare

Today, the Florida Democratic Party released the following flyer highlighting why Pinellas seniors can’t trust Washington lobbyist David Jolly on Medicare and Social Security.

The flyer, which will be distributed by the FDP this week at senior centers and 55+ communities throughout Florida’s 13th Congressional District, details lobbyist Jolly’s record on issues that matter to Pinellas seniors – lobbying for an extreme group that supports privatizing Social Security, and his comments in support of the Ryan budget that ends Medicare as we know it.

Michelle Obama: “Chip in to protect Obamacare”

First Lady Michelle Obama sent an email to supporters urging them to chip in to support Democrats protecting Obamacare. Here's what she had to say:

Friend —

Earlier this month, because of what you did, it became illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against the up to 129 million Americans living with pre-existing conditions. Young Americans are able to stay on their parents' health care plans as they get on their feet, and we can now know that our insurance companies won't put lifetime caps on our coverage.

You should be so proud of that. That happened because you organized, you talked to your friends and neighbors, and you chipped in what you could, when you could, to elect Barack and a Congress who supported his agenda.

Today, I'm asking you to do it again.

So before Barack gives his State of the Union address tomorrow, chip in $10 or more and help protect Obamacare:

Thank you so much,

Michelle

White House Previews the State of the Union on Instagram

On Tuesday, President Obama will head to the Capitol to deliver his fifth State of the Union address to Congress and the American people.

But a lot happens before the President steps into the Houes of Representatives chamber.

To give the public a peek into that preparation, the White House is handing over the reins of its Instagram account each day this week to a different person, beginning yesterday with White House speechwriter Cody Kennan.

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on Roe v. Wade Anniversary

“During the 2012 elections, Republicans made restricting women’s access to health care one of their top agenda items, and the American people soundly rejected it. Then again in November, 2013, their extreme women’s health platforms were front and center and they lost, with massive gender gaps.  These issues have been argued, for decades, and the American people have made their voices heard.

”Last year, the GOP said they needed to reach out to women, but instead they’ve decided their plan is to spend more time fighting to restrict the rights of women to make their own health care choices.

”Today, on the 41st anniversary of Roe v Wade, Republicans will introduce a resolution urging their candidates to double down on these positions, and they already delayed their meeting so that RNC Chairman Priebus could rally against women’s rights – this is not what the American people are looking for.

”There are so many pressing issues facing our country that deserve our attention. But still, the GOP places blocking women’s access to health care at the top of their agenda, insisting we continue to spend time, and taxpayer dollars, refighting these battles. As long as Republicans throw obstacles in their way, Democrats will continue to stand up for women and protect access to health care.”
