DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on September Jobs Report

Washington, DC – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in response to today’s jobs report showing 248,000 jobs were added in the month of September and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9% :

“Today’s jobs report is just further proof of what we already know – Democrats have led our nation to unprecedented job growth and the lowest unemployment rate in six years, yielding expanded opportunity for American families. We still have much more work to be done to increase wages, ensure equal pay, and create good jobs which is why we need more Democrats in state capitols and in Congress who are committed to getting things done.

“The only thing standing between our country and more economic opportunity is Republican obstructionism. Over the next 32 days, Democrats across the country will draw the contrast between the results we’ve seen for the last 55 months of private sector job growth and the Republican record of costing our economy $24 billion by shutting down the government, blocking legislation that would extend the ladder to the middle class for more Americans, and wasting time and taxpayer resources to play political games by suing the President.”
