Leon County Commission to Vote on Domestic Partner Registry

Tonight, members of the Leon County Commission will hold the only public hearing on a measure that would create a domestic partner registry in Leon County.  The registry, proposed by Commissioner Mary Ann Lindley, would grant basic rights to registered couples, including: healthcare facility visitation, healthcare decisions, funeral/burial decisions, notification of family members, pre-need guardian designation, correctional facilities visitation rights, and, participation in education decisions.  The hearing will begin at 6pm at Leon County Commission Chambers in the Leon County Courthouse on North Monroe Street.

Gather your friends, family, and other supporters and show up at the public hearing to let the commissioners see that you support this effort!  You are encouraged to wear red!

If passed by Leon County commissioners, the local registry would be maintained by the Leon County Clerk’s office. Broward, Miami-Dade, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Volusia counties, along with the cities of Gainesville, Key West, Sarasota, Tampa and Tavares already allow domestic partnership registration.
